Being a cooperative allows Bowen parents many special opportunities, but most importantly it gives you a unique window into your child's first school experience. About once a month, on a rotating basis, 3-Day and 5-Day parents are assigned to parent help in the classroom as teacher assistants. TK families are assigned to help twice throughout the year, usually once in the fall and once in the spring.

Parents prepare snack for the day and help out as needed in the class. It is a wonderful chance to see the classroom in “action” and your child interact with his/her friends and teachers. This creates a close community where parents know all the children in their child's classroom.

In addition to parent helping, each family participates as a member either on the Board or on a School Committee. The successful operation of our nursery school depends on parent participation, and it is unlikely that you will ever get the chance to be as closely involved in your child’s education again.

"Parent helping allows me to better communicate with my 4-year-old. My child may use her developing language skills to describe to me a routine, a project, or a friend she has made in her class. Once I see the class in action and observe our gifted teachers, I can better understand what she is trying to share with me." - Jennifer, Parent
