Nina Tebaldi

Director

Nina received her Bachelor’s degree from New York University, and is an EEC certified Lead Preschool Teacher and Preschool Director. Before becoming Director, she taught in the Pre-K class for 3 years. She has spent many years living and working abroad, in France, Switzerland and Italy.  Now settled in Newtonville, she serves on the board of the Newton Early Childhood Association, is Co-President of the FA Day School PTO, and has been an officer of the Cabot Elementary School PTO.  She and her husband Diego have two daughters, Chloe and Madeleine, both Bowen alumnae.

Karen Solari

3-Day Lead Teacher


Karen is an EEC certified Lead Teacher. She received her BA from Wheelock College in 1992, majoring in child development. Karen taught in Newton for 8 years in grades kindergarten through grade three. After the birth of her oldest daughter, Karen dedicated her time to raising her four children, and she was extremely active in the PTO and the Understanding our Differences program at Horace Mann elementary school in Newton. Her love of young children inspired her to return to the classroom setting, creating a love of learning through play.

Mayson Corbett

3-Day Assistant Teacher

Originally from Colorado, Mayson moved to Massachusetts in 2017 after graduating from The University of Alabama in Huntsville with a BA in Elementary Education. She has worked with a wide range of age groups over the last 6 years (birth-11 years). Most recently she worked at Mason-Rice Elementary School in NPS as an in school substitute working in a variety of roles. During the school year, Charlestown is where you can find her with her two pups, Winnie and EmmyLou, and her boyfriend Brandon. During the summer, Colorado is where they call home, spending time with family and friends while enjoying the outdoors.

Cathryn Costello

5-Day Lead Teacher


Cathy is an EEC certified Lead Teacher. She received her B.A. from the University of Massachusetts Boston. After teaching in private nursery preschools in Newton for 10 years, Cathy returned to college to pursue a Master’s in Education from Wheelock College. She has worked in a variety of school settings, and is truly devoted to teaching young children through a play-based community environment. Cathy lives in Roslindale where she and her husband brought up their 2 children, one who lives an Washington D.C. and one who lives and works in Boston.

Caroline Silva

Caroline graduated from Queens College in 2009 with a B.A in Early Childhood Education and Sociology.  She has worked with young children for over 10 years in a variety of settings.  Caroline is originally from NYC where she worked as a Pre-K teacher, art teacher and special needs caregiver before dedicating 5 years to raising her own children. In 2016, she moved to Newton with her husband Thiago, and two young sons, James a Bowen alumnus, and Jax.  She enjoys spending time with family and friends, event styling, singing and being active outdoors.

Emily Carroll

Pre-K Lead Teacher


Emily is an EEC certified Lead Teacher. She received her Master's in Early Childhood Education from Lesley University in 2015. After working for years in fundraising and the arts and having children of her own, she decided to make a career change and returned to graduate school at Lesley. She joined Bowen as the 3-Day Assistant Teacher in 2015, and became the Pre-K Lead Teacher in 2018. She has 2 children who attend the Shady Hill School in Cambridge. She lives in Newton with her family.

Martine Sifakis

Pre-K Assistant Teacher


Martine received a B.A. in Psychology from Boston University and a M.Ed. in Educational Research from Northeastern University. For many years, she was a clinical research analyst at Massachusetts General Hospital in various fields, such as Pediatrics, Dermatology and Cardiology. She decided to become a teacher, as she loves the reciprocal relationship of teaching and learning that it offers. She lives in Needham with her two boys, Evan and Otis. She loves keeping active with her children, cooking, biking, fishing, and exploring new places.

Steve Chandy

Music Specialist


Steve is the Director of all Kidzrock bands, ages four through seven, at InHome Jams in Newton. He has performed in many world renowned venues, including World Cafe live and the Apollo Theater. He has also been featured on Dreamnation TV's Acapella series. As a member of Beatpeace Inc, he has released an album, toured the country, and opened for the rapper Common. In his role as music teacher at Bowen, Steve brings an exciting mix of classic and contemporary songs, storytelling, and exploration of beat and rhythm.

Brian Kelly

Movement Specialist


Brian, founder of Be Ahead of the Game, Inc., has been a coach and physical education teacher for over 18 years. He offers exercise programs in numerous area preschools, elementary schools, after-school programs and rec centers. He also coaches soccer for a number of organizations throughout Massachusetts, including Mass Youth Soccer, Newton Youth Soccer, Delta Football Club, FC Greater Boston Bolts and New England Football Club. Brian holds a BA in Biology from Plymouth State University, and is a member of the National Sports and Conditioning Association and the National Exercise and Sports Trainers Association. He earned his Advanced National Diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America in 2013.

John Carver-Gustin

Movement Specialist


John has been working for Be Ahead of the Game since 2009. He runs Creative Movement and Introduction to Sports classes, as well as flag football clinics and private/small group athletic trainings. John graduated from Springfield College with a degree in Sport & Recreation Management. He enjoys working with all types of kids, playing all types of games, and most importantly having a lot of fun! John is also a NASM certified personal trainer and fitness enthusiast and is CPR and first aid certified.

Melissa Roberts
Science and Nature Specialist

Melissa has enjoyed the outdoors since she was digging for worms and salamanders as a toddler in Connecticut. She continues to have a passion for educating children about the natural world after 8 years as PUDDLESTOMPERS’ lead teacher and program manager. She also works as a teacher in social and behavioral development in Weston in addition to PUDDLESTOMPERS. When she is not teaching she can be found hiking, surfing, and exploring New England with her husband.

Priscilla Howland

Guest Reader

Priscilla has worked in early childhood and elementary education for over 30 years. She received her Masters in Early Childhood Education from Boston University. Priscilla taught for many years in the 3-day classroom, then served as Director at Bowen before her retirement in 2015. She now returns to Bowen each month for an interactive storytime, including books, songs, and fingerplay.
