Director's Column: Fun Activities
It was so nice to kick off Spring Break with a beautiful day and Creative Movement out on the hill. The week may not look as pleasant, but there are many fun activities you can do with your children over the break!
Saturday: The Swan Boats open for the season! Enjoy a 12-15 minute ride around the Public Garden lagoon. To inaugurate the boats’ 142nd season, Mayor Marty Walsh will host the first ride. Sunday: Take the family on the one-mile Heartbreak Hill Road Race, starting at Newton City Hall, taking you up and down Heartbreak Hill. The family walk is held at 11:30, then children 10 and up can race, based on age and gender, starting at 12pm. This race is held rain or shine ... or snow. :(
Monday: Head over to Commonwealth Avenue to watch the marathoners. It looks like it's going to be a cold and rainy day, so the runners could really use your cheers of encouragement! Tuesday: Get a head start on the 3-Day ocean unit by heading to the aquarium for the day. Watch divers feed the animals in the giant tank, see a harbor seal or fur seal training session, or check out Oceans 3D at the IMAX theater.
Wednesday: The MFA has amazing vacation week programs for children. This week's theme is Myths and Magic, and all children get free admission. Create your own magical wand or bracelet, draw yourself as a god or goddess, and enjoy a spellbinding storytime!
Thursday: Looking for some fun and games? Be Ahead of the Game is running a Games Galore vacation week session at Temple Emanuel. Three hours of sports, games, creative movement exercises, parachute games, balls, hula hoops and music!
Friday: Get ready for Earth Day by visiting the Ecotarium in Worcester. If you have a budding scientist, they will love the "Citizen Science" programs, designed to help children understand how they can help save the planet. We hope you have a wonderful week, and we look forward to seeing you back at Bowen after break! Best, Nina
