Director's Column: Thank You for a Very Special Year
Was anyone feeling as emotional as I was yesterday? The teachers and I have spent the last month reassuring parents that it is totally normal that their children are more emotional than usual, some are regressing, some acting out, some saying they don’t want to go to school anymore. Change can be uncomfortable! I realize that I am going through the very same thing as these children. I will still be here next year, but it will be different. The children change, the parents change, the Board changes and I will miss the families who are moving on.
The amazing thing is, we will all adapt to the change. Your children will move on and learn to love their new teachers, make new friends, and feel happy and comfortable. The teachers will learn all about their new children: what kinds of stories they like, what activities make their eyes light up with excitement, what kind of learners they are, what makes each one of them special. We will forget how difficult the transition was. And then, next year, we will go through it all over again!
I hope you had fun at the Family Picnic last night. This is my favorite event of the year. It is a chance for us all to relax and celebrate the end of school with our families, friends and teachers. Every year has its challenges, and I am so lucky to have a supportive community around me. Your kind gifts, notes, and words mean so much. I absolutely love what I do and love being part of this community. Thank you all for being a part of the Cooperative and for making this school such a special place.
Best, Nina
